The conference deals with Public and Private Archives in the Information Society. It looks at how archives continue to support the rule of law, enhance good governance and facilitate corporate governance how they integrate themselves in information-logistics-networks thus continuously warranting long-term preservation to assure a rare good: reliable evidence through contextually embedded information about the present and the past. This evidence guarantees societal auditability, forms an economic asset which can be reused, and is indispensable for scientific research and as a basis for trust.
In a period when the methodology for handling the huge quantities of recorded information found in today's society are gradually emerging, archivists need a solid knowledge of their own professional principles, as well as an understanding of the risks and opportunities of new approaches. The conference will consider how the new and the old need to be balanced in future professional practice, and whether the core archival functions persist, despite the changing context.
150 speakers from Europe and beyond presented more than 100 sessions on the latest developments in digital archiving.
The Society of Swiss Archivists VSA-AAS is proud to present the keynotes of the Geneva Conference here [day 1, day 2, day 3].
