Shedding Light on The Coming Digital Dark Age: A Lawyer’s Perspective on Archival Strategies for Managing, Preserving, and Accessing Electronically Stored Information
Jason R. Baron
Director of Litigation, US National Archives and Records Administration
College Park, Maryland, USA
Lawyers around the word are increasingly engaged in the practice of e-discovery and e-disclosure, acting as an external driver of change within institutions, as the latter act, at least on a short-term basis, to collect, preserve, and provide access to a myriad of new forms of electronically stored information (ESI) in response to legal demands. To this end, lawyers and archivists share a common interest in pursuing strategies aimed at facilitating preservation and access to important documents, records and communications in electronic form, that otherwise remain inaccessible.

In particular it will examine where the power now resides in this digital world and what this may mean for the role of the information professional of the future.
